Group Shows - Schloss Görne, Germany.

August 7th - September 3rd, 2021

Kristin Hjellegjerde Gallery is proud to announce the opening of its fifth gallery space at Schloss Görne, Germany with a large-scale summer exhibition that will fill the historic buildings and surrounding gardens with diverse artworks by 37 artists. Aptly entitled Facing the Sun, the show celebrates the gallery’s continued global expansion and looks forward to a more optimistic future.

Despite the many challenges that have faced the art world over the past year, Kristin Hjellegjerde Gallery continues to grow with the representation of new artists and an increased programme of exhibitions across its existing four spaces. Located approximately 40 minutes outside of Berlin, Schloss Görne presents an exciting opportunity for audiences to experience contemporary art in the dramatic and historic setting of a 18th century German castle. The new location follows the success of The Shrimp Factory, Kristin Hjellegjerde Gallery’s space that opened in Norway in the summer of 2020, and is similarly set to host an annual exhibition each summer, but on a much larger scale.

Situated in the picturesque village of Görne, the castle’s romantic and imposing Neo-Baroque facade rises up between the trees while inside, many of the cavernous rooms are crumbling and overgrown. An eclectic collection of paintings, sculptures and media-mixed artworks by gallery artists and friends will weave through the internal spaces and out into the wild gardens, initiating an intriguing dialogue between the old and the new and inviting viewers to contemplate art’s ability to both transform and reinvigorate space.

Significantly, the exhibition’s opening also marks the beginning of an ongoing partnership between the gallery and Schloss Görne, which will accompany its gradual renovation into a vibrant cultural destination where the beauty of nature and art combine. In this way, Facing the Sun is not only an impressive display of work by an international group of rising artists, but also a joyful vision of a time when we can once again gather to appreciate the rich and varied experience of art and culture.
